Although the Viper line is Directed Electronics’ most popular, they also produce many other top names that we currently stock, e.g., Valet, Avital, Hornet and Clifford brands.

How does a remote car starter work?
A remote start system works by first having the brain/control unit installed into the vehicle. The unit has a wiring harness that our professional technicians interface into the vehicle to start the vehicle once activated. The unit also contains an antenna that is used to allow the control unit to talk to the remote. After the installation is complete, you simply activate the system by pressing a button on the remote. Our units have various run time settings, but by default we set ours to 24 minutes, which means that your vehicle will run for 24 minutes before automatically turning off, if you have not inserted the key to the on position.
If your car has a factory key fab which controls the door locks, hatch pop etc., the unit will continue to function as it did before installing your remote start. One thing to keep in mind is that many vehicles, particularly from Japanese automaker, disable the key fab functionality while the engine is running. If you find it to be inconvenient there are a couple of options. Our one button remote starts have an optional door unlock feature that we can install. There is an additional expense with this but many people appreciate the convenience of using a fab to unlock their doors. The other option is to purchase one of our remote starts with keyless entry.

Is it true installing a remote car start unit voids my factory warranty?
This is only a myth that the car dealers try to use to instill fear in their customers. Since the remote start was not a part of the vehicle’s original equipment, they automatically do not want to deal with it. It states that a manufacturer cannot void a warranty because an aftermarket device is installed.

How long does it take to install a remote start?
Normally installation of a remote start system will take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours depending on the vehicle. Your sales associate can advise you of the normal installation time for your particular vehicle.
